Completed collograph print on Laurier paper 40.5cm square
cardboard collograph printing plate
carved cardboard collograph printing plate before ink
Today I came back to print at the Grafische Werkplaats again after a few weeks away. It was great to enter and immediately feel the energy of being back in studio. I finished carving and lacquering the third plate in the Bridge series and it was ready for the press. In this plate, I experimented with adding window screen to create a new texture on this plate. After the ink was rolled on the surface I was excited to see the result on paper. After a few adjustments to the pressure of the etching press and the amount of ink I was pleased with the results.
This image is the view of the Williamsburg bridge through the lens of the Manhattan bridge. I am struck by how structures create their own composition. If you look closely at the result you may spot a hidden number which frames the Williamsburg bridge. The steel of the bridge takes on an artistic quality when you take a moment to step back and look through it.
